30 August 2008

Scarily enough, it is now my last month in London, with only three more working weeks to go! I am trying to make the most of my remaining time here, catching up with friends, visiting museums and the like. The other day I visited the V&A museum with another friend from College who had never been, and couldn't believe I hadn't visited earlier, it was beautiful. After studying for three years just down the road, I am glad that I didn't leave London without seeing it!

I have graduated from the Royal College of Music, after my second year, and am now the proud bearer of a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Vocal Studies (or will be when they fix some temporary problems and produce the actual certificates). Since my permanent part-time job has ended I have been temping to save money and currently have a position as a Temporary Client Support Executive for a financial website (knowing nothing about finance or IT). Temping does lead to constant self re-invention - two weeks ago I was a receptionist with very very little to do, and before that I was a Temporary Policy & Public Affairs Assistant and Carers Rights Day Campaign Administrator (yes, all one title). This week I will be working both in the computer support position and as a receptionist, getting my daily exercise by running between the two during my twenty minute lunch break!

Since the flat I had been living at for the past two years went on the market a month ago I had to find a place to live for the remaining two months of my stay here. Fortunately a lady in New Zealand kindly put me in touch with her sister & brother-in-law who needed a house & dog sitter for the month of August. They have very generously said that they are happy for me to stay on as a lodger for the next month, which is wonderfully kind. The dog, Pickle, is an exact replica of Hairy MacLary from Donaldson's Dairy, and he and I have had a good time over the last month exploring the area on our twice-daily walks.
